Differences in properties and Cm(III) complexation behavior of isolated humic and fulvic acid derived from Opalinus clay and Callovo-Oxfordian argillite

چکیده
Fulvic acids from deep clay formations have been isolated by the International Humic Substances Society (IHSS) standard protocol and analyzed. Near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy reveals, that the basic structural features relating to the origin of the clay organic matter (i.e., terrestrial or marine) are preserved even after the around 150 Ma since deposition (Jurassic sediment). Analysis by asymmetrical flow field flow fractionation (AFFFF) shows the size distribution peak found for typical fulvic acids. In addition, a second larger size peak is found for the fulvic acids influenced by marine deposition. These fulvic acids also have a considerable content of organic material which does not absorb in the visible range. The Cm(III) complexation behavior has been studied by time-resolved laser fluorescence spectroscopy (TRLFS). Despite considerable fluorescence quenching, the complexation constant is shown to be in the same range as published values found for different typical fulvic acids. ! 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Preferred Orientations and Anisotropy in Shales: Callovo-oxfordian Shale (france) and Opalinus Clay (switzerland)
Anisotropy in clay-rich sedimentary rocks is receiving increasing attention. Seismic anisotropy is essential in the prospecting for petroleum deposits. Anisotropy of diffusion has become relevant for environmental contaminants, including nuclear waste. In both cases, the orientation of component minerals is a critical ingredient and, largely because of small grain size and poor crystallinity, t...
متن کاملEffects of Humic and Fulvic Acids on Some Physiological Characteristics of Two Ornamental Plants of Granium (Plargonium spp.) and Scindapsus (Scindapsus spp.)
Humic acid and fulvic acid are natural and organic materials, which are derived from various sources such as soil organic matter (humus), soil, peat, oxidized lignite and coal. In order to evaluate the effect of humic substances on physiological characteristics of two ornamental plants of granium (Plargonium spp.) and scindapsus (Scindapsus spp.), an experiment was conducted as 4×4 factorial, b...
متن کاملOedometric compression and swelling behaviour of the Callovo-Oxfordian argillite
The Callovo-Oxfordian (COx) argillite is a possible host rock for radioactive waste disposal in which the ANDRA underground laboratory of Bure (East of France) has been excavated. In this paper some aspects of the volume change behaviour of the COx argillite are investigated. To do so, high pressure oedometers with a maximum capacity of 113 MPa have been used. In a first stage, swelling tests w...
متن کاملEffect of Soil Application of Humic Acid and Fluvic Acid on Agronomic traits of Barley
One of the most important issues affecting environmental health and sustainable food production is application of organic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers. This study set out to investigate the effect of application of soil humic acid and fulvic acid on barley plant. To this end a factorial experiment was carried out on the basis of randomized complete block design with four replicat...
متن کاملEu(III)-Fulvic Acid Complexation: Evidence of Fulvic Acid Concentration Dependent Interactions by Time-Resolved Luminescence Spectroscopy.
Europium speciation is investigated by time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy (TRLS) in the presence of Suwannee River fulvic acid (SRFA). From complexation isotherms built at different total Eu(III) concentrations, pH values, ionic strength, and SRFA concentrations, it appears that two luminescence behaviors of Eu(III) are occurring. The first part, at the lowest CSRFA values, is showing the ...
